An international hotel index

Sixteen hotels,
four ways of
building one.

Humanoid Hubs is a small editorial index of hotels grouped by the idea that shaped them — a collection, a berth, a resort floor plan, a season. No bookings, no scores, no sponsored entries. Just four categories, read straight through.

Most hotel writing sorts by city, price or star count. That works for booking and fails for understanding, because it puts a capsule berth in Shinjuku and a lakeside resort in Ontario on the same axis and asks you to compare them.

We sort by the organising idea instead. An art hotel and an ice hotel are not competing for the same night; they are two different answers to the question of what a hotel is for. Grouped that way, each one is easier to read, and the differences inside a category start to matter more than the differences between them.

The index

01 Art Hotels Hotels where the collection is not decoration bolted on afterwards but part of the reason the building was arranged the way it is. Open category 02 Capsule Hotels Hotels that have reduced the private room to a berth, then spent the recovered space and money on everything around it. Open category 03 Casino Hotels Four Canadian hotels described as hotels — rooms, service, building — with the gaming floor treated as one facility among several. Open category 04 Ice Hotels Hotels rebuilt from snow and river ice each winter, and taken down by the thaw — with a warm building always standing behind them. Open category

How we write these up

Each entry is prose. We do not publish specification tables, key-value grids or scored comparisons, because the useful information about a hotel — how the building is arranged, who it is really for, what it is like to arrive there late — does not survive being cut into cells.

We keep facts general and durable. Room counts, opening hours and rates change; the shape of a building and the logic of its service do not, and that is what we try to describe. Where a property is seasonal, we say so. Where a category has a fixed roster, it stays fixed.

Nothing on this site is a booking service. Every hotel named here is reachable directly, and we would rather you went to the operator than through anyone else. We take no commission because there is none to take.
